After two losses to start the season, the Ripon High football team was scheduled to host a Valley Oak League contest against Weston Ranch on Thursday, looking for its first win.

However, less than 24 hours before the game, it was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

The news was first reported by the Manteca Bulletin.

The Indians were without multiple players last week against Manteca due to contract tracing and Ripon Athletic Director Rod Wright confirmed to the Bulletin the team had “additional cases” that forced Thursday’s cancellation.

It’s the third area game canceled in the last two weeks after Davis and Escalon had their games canceled due to COVID-19 issues.

The quarantine period ends for Escalon on Friday and although they won’t play this week, the Cougars hope to be back on the field next Friday when they host Ripon.

It is unknown if Ripon will be able to play that contest.
