Two arrested in Riverview Park shooting in Ceres that left one man dead
Arrests have been made in connection with a shooting at Riverview Park last month that left one man dead and another seriously injured, according to the Ceres Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 2 a.m. Dec. 3 in the 2700 block of Riverpark Drive, where they found 20-year-old Zocario Benjamin Munoz dead in the roadway. A second man, 26-year-old Issaac McNab, was found nearby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital.
A preliminary investigation determined that a group of people had gathered at the park when confronted by several unidentified men who arrived in a vehicle. During the confrontation, multiple gunshots were fired.
Over the following weeks, detectives interviewed potential witnesses and collected video and surveillance evidence, which led them to identify Oshua Cervantes and Josue Lopez as suspects.
On Thursday, Ceres police executed four search warrants at residences throughout Stanislaus County. Cervantes was arrested on suspicion of murder in Munoz’s death, and Lopez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the shooting of McNab.
“The Ceres Police Department would like to thank the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, Modesto Police Department, Turlock Police Department, and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance during this investigation,” read the press release. “Their contributions led to the arrest of two violent criminals and helped bring justice to the victims and their families.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact Detective Nicolas Welsh at 209-538-5616.
