Man killed, second wounded in shooting at Riverview Park in Ceres, police say
Ceres police are investigating a homicide after one man was killed and another was seriously wounded in a shooting early Wednesday at Riverview Park.
Officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. after multiple callers reported a person had been shot, the Ceres Police Department said in a news release. Officers arrived in the 2700 block of Riverpark Drive and found a man dead in the roadway. A second man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was located nearby and taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Patrol officers secured the area and detectives responded to the scene.
Early findings indicate a group had gathered at Riverview Park when several unidentified males in a vehicle approached, police said. During a confrontation, gunshots were fired, striking the two victims. Detectives are still working to determine a motive, but early indications suggest the shooting may be gang related.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Welsh at 209-538-5616.
