Two found dead in south Modesto home from which shooting victim fled
About two and a half hours after a shooting victim fled from a south Modesto home Thursday morning, Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies entered the home and found two people dead.
The incident started around 5 a.m. when a male victim was shot by a relative inside a home in the 800 block of Inyo Avenue, said sheriff’s Sgt. Luke Schwartz.
The victim ran across the street to seek help from a neighbor, who called 911. Schwartz said a 911 call taker heard gunfire in the background while on the phone with the neighbor.
Deputies responded to the scene, established a perimeter around the home and evacuated nearby residents.
The initial male shooting victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Schwartz said.
The Sheriff Department’s SWAT and negotiation teams also responded to the scene and a PA system was used in an attempt to communicate with anyone inside. For over two hours no one responded and at about 7:45 a.m. the SWAT team entered the home.
A man and a woman were found dead inside, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said there is no further threat to the public but would not say if the gunman was the man found dead in the house and if all three people were related.
A staff member at the Apostolic Jubilee Center, which is adjacent to the home, told The Bee a woman estimated to be in her early 70s and two adult sons have lived at the home for about 10 years. The home is owned by the church and family members belong to the church, according to the staff member.
According to radio traffic of the incident, the initial shooting victim who fled the home told his neighbors his brother shot him.
