Homicide victim identified as 17-year-old recent Patterson High School grad
A teenage boy has been identified as the victim of a homicide in Patterson last week.
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sgt. Luke Schwartz said Jose Mendoza, 17, of Patterson was assaulted around 2 p.m. in the area of Shearwater Drive and James Burke Avenue near Tilton Park.
He said family was driving him to a hospital when they realized he had died. They stopped at Main Avenue and Carpenter Road, where they were met by first responders.
The Patterson Irrigator reported Mendoza was stabbed but Schwartz said he could not confirm that.
Mendoza graduated from Patterson High School in June, said Patterson School District spokesman Johnny Padilla.
Authorities have not said if they’ve identified any suspects in the case or determined a motive.
The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call Detective Summerton at 209-525-7032 or submit anonymous tips to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
