Employee shot during Tuesday morning robbery at Modesto doughnut shop, police say
An employee of a Modesto doughnut shop was in surgery Tuesday morning after being shot during a robbery, according to police.
The shooting occurred just after 6:20 a.m. at We Donuts on Scenic Drive at Oakdale Road.
A man wearing a back ski mask and blue sweatshirt entered the store, pulled out a black handgun and demanded money, said Modesto Police Lt. Jason Grogan.
At some point, “There were shots fired in the store” and a female employee was hit, he said. The robber fired the shots, Grogan said.
The employee was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.
The robber last was seen running toward Scenic. Grogan did not know if there were other people in the store at the time of the shooting or if the robber left with any money.
