Speeding vehicle hits curb, launching it airborne and into Modesto residence early Friday
Emergency crews responded early Friday morning to an incident in which a speeding vehicle crashed into a dwelling in Modesto.
The unusual crash occurred at 3:37 a.m. near the intersection of Tully Road and Bowen Avenue.
Battalion Chief Jim Black of the Modesto Fire Department said a car traveling at high speed went out of control, struck the curb, rolled and kicked up into the air. The vehicle struck a duplex high on its wall, causing extensive damage.
The driver and a passenger were injured and taken to a hospital for care. The occupants of the duplex were not injured, the fire official said.
Black said fire personnel secured the water and utility lines. The duplex was assessed for structural damage. People living in the dwelling temporarily stayed in the other half of the duplex.
Modesto police are investigating. It hasn’t been determined if drugs or alcohol were involved.
