Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen is scheduled to deliver her first state of the city address next month since taking office after winning a February 2021 runoff election.

Zwahlen is set to speak April 14 at Modesto Centre Plaza. The doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the mayor is expected to speak at 12:15 p.m. The event is free, and the city is asking people to RSVP by March 31 at bit.ly/362JJGR.

City spokesman Andrew Gonzales said Modesto is asking for the RSVPs to get an idea of how many people it can expect, which will help in planning the event.

He said the city is looking into how it can carry the mayor’s address by livestream or similar means for people who cannot or do not want to attend in person. More details are expected within a couple of weeks.

A post on the city’s Facebook page states the state of the city will be a “celebration of city accomplishments in 2021, an overview of initiatives that are underway and (a) look ahead to the future of our Modesto community.”
