Clubs, bars, restaurants and other establishments surround the neighborhood where shots rang out early Sunday in downtown Sacramento, killing six and wounding 12.
Police are still investigating the mass shooting, which took place about 2 a.m. April 3 near 10th and K streets. Several nearby blocks also have been blocked off.
Once a bustling corridor in the 1940s and 1950s, the stretch of K Street has struggled in recent decades despite efforts to revitalize it as a nightlife district.
Several clubs and music venues operate in the area, including London Sacramento at 1009 10th St., which bills itself as a “multi-level boutique nightclub & ultra lounge” on its website. At least two of the victims had gone to London the night of the shooting.
“We at London Sacramento are praying for the families of the victims that were impacted by the incident that occurred near 10th & K streets,” the club said in a statement on Instagram. “As we continue to process this horrific act, we would like to emphasize that each night, London Sacramento enforces strict security protocols and begins closing procedures at 130 a.m.”
The Dive Bar, which contains a live mermaid tank, is nearby, along with the Social Nightclub.
Just a few blocks west stands the Golden 1 Center, where the Sacramento Kings play basketball. Tyler, The Creator played a concert at the center Saturday night just hours before the shooting.
The historic Crest Theatre, Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and Esquire IMAX theater also are nearby.
Singers Aly and AJ, a pop duo featuring sisters Alyson and Amanda Michalka, who opened their new tour at the Crest Theatre Saturday night, wrote on Twitter that their tour bus was “caught in the crossfire” after the show.
“We sheltered in place and everyone in our touring group is ok,” they wrote.
The California State Capitol and Capitol Park are just a few blocks southeast of the shooting.
The musical “Wicked” is showing at the Broadway Sacramento theater a few blocks northeast.
There have been no arrests in the mass shooting and police have released little information on how it unfolded.
