Stanislaus County will get first Dave’s Hot Chicken selling Nashville-style meals

While Stanislaus County does not lack fried chicken options, it does not have a location of one popular Nashville-style chicken restaurant — Dave’s Hot Chicken.

That’ll soon change, as renovation work has begun to transform a former T-Mobile store at 2741 Countryside Drive in Turlock into the newest California location of the chicken chain.

There are around 70 locations of Dave’s in California, and the closest to Stanislaus County is in Livermore.

It’s not hard to guess what Dave’s Hot Chicken sells, but here’s the menu anyway: hot chicken. But really, the menu consists of seasoned, breaded and fried chicken tenders, bites and sliders with seven spice levels ranging from no spice to “reaper.”

Sides include macaroni and cheese, fries, kale slaw and pickles. Dave’s also has a signature sauce.

According to the online menu for the Livermore location, Dave’s has brought back its “not chicken” — fried cauliflower that can be ordered as “tenders,” sliders or bites.

Customers also can order Dave’s chicken or cauliflower as loaded fries.

For drinks, Dave’s has chocolate, vanilla and strawberry milkshakes that can be topped with Lucky Charms, Oreos, M&M’s or popping boba. “Slushers” come in flavors including orange cream, rocket cream, strawberries and cream and frozen fruit punch.

Dave’s Hot Chicken was established in Southern California by four childhood friends (one named Dave) in their 20s with $900 and a dream.

“Our not-so-grand opening was in 2017, in a parking lot in East Hollywood, with a couple of folding tables and a portable fryer under the night sky,” the restaurant’s website says.

Dave’s now operates over 300 locations and has sold rights to more than 1,000 franchise locations across the United States, Middle East and Canada, according to Yahoo Finance. Private Equity Firm Roark Capital announced in June that it acquired Dave’s in a $1 billion deal.
