Modesto native among stars as hit streaming show returns. Speaks on cast change drama
Modesto’s Jeremiah Brent can be seen in his latest reality TV role, now streaming on Netflix.
Brent joined the cast of “Queer Eye,” replacing Bobby Berk as the interior design expert.
The Modesto High graduate joined the team for season 9, set in Las Vegas, The Bee reported in February.
The new season premiered on Netflix this week. Returning cast members and their areas of expertise are Karamo Brown, culture; Antoni Porowski, food; Tan France, fashion; and Jonathan Van Ness, beauty.
Berk’s departure stirred up tabloid drama, which swept in Brent, according to a story in Entertainment Weekly.
“With the show, there’s a lot of loyalty that comes with that,” Brent told Entertainment Weekly in the story. “I’m somebody that’s really good at earning respect, and that’s how I’ve navigated the entire thing. People don’t know me. People are used to their friend group the way it was, but I’m happy to earn people’s respect and I’m happy for them to get to know me and for me to get to know them.”
He addressed joining the tightly knit cast in the EW story, saying, “I knew two of them already and they were dear friends of mine. But then we all met and hit it off immediately. Something really special happened, and it was like I had known them all for 20 years. One of the first things I felt when I started working with everybody is that I really kind of came home.”
Brent got his start in reality TV in 2011 on Bravo’s “The Rachel Zoe Project.”
He’s since appeared in shows with his husband, celebrity designer Nate Berkus, such as “Nate & Jeremiah by Design” on TLC and “The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project” on HGTV.
