Central Valley comedian gets debut on Stephen Colbert show. Watch his performance
Modesto region comedian Saul Trujillo got his first shot at performing on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday night.
Trujillo, one of the founding members of the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club in Manteca, also received a Modesto Music Association Award for best comedian in 2013. He’s originally from Stockton.
He was among the comedians who played a “We Own The Laughs: Modesto” show at the State Theatre earlier this year.
He now is a paid regular at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles and the opening road act for comic Felipe Esparza, according to a story in the Manteca Bulletin.
In his “Late Show” appearance, he referred to his mullet haircut saying, “I’m from Northern California, I’m from Stockton, California, where all the food is grown, so this is a cherry-picking mullet. This mullet is very agricultural, you know. It did not come with a green card.“
He riffed on loving Taco Bell, despite his Mexican heritage. “It’s just like the Beastie Boys, you know. It’s not authentic but you can’t deny talent.”
At the end of his roughly five-minute performance, Colbert gave a plug to Trujillo’s upcoming TV special “Yolanda,” to debut in 2025. IMDB.com does not list a channel or streaming service where the special will air.
