Tradition rolls on with Easter egg hunts in Modesto region. Here’s where and when

Get ready to grab a basket and get hunting, kids.

There are plenty of places in the Modesto region where Easter will be celebrated with egg hunts, as well as other community celebrations.

Easter Sunday is April 9, but Ceres starts off things early, Friday, March 31, as does Modesto Reservoir, where the annual event is set for Saturday, April 1.

Here’s a look at some of what’s planned:

SPRING EGGSTRAVAGANZA – March 31: The Ceres Recreation Department hosts a family event with arts, crafts, pictures with the Easter Bunny, goody-bag giveaways and more. Food and snacks will be available for purchase. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth St. Free. www.ci.ceres.ca.us/235/Recreation-Department.

MODESTO RESERVOIR – April 1: The Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation Department hosts egg hunts at the reservoir. Other activities include face painting, train rides and crafts. Activities 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Hunts are from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., based on age. Modesto Reservoir Regional Park, 18143 Reservoir Road, near Waterford. $15 per carload; egg hunts, games and activities free. www.stancounty.com.

MODESTO CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET – April 8: Special Easter celebration market features egg hunts with prizes hidden inside plastic eggs. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; hunts begin at 9:20 a.m., with different times for different age groups. Live music. 16th Street between H and I streets. modestocfm.com.

COLUMBIA’S VICTORIAN EASTER CELEBRATION – April 9: Dress up in Easter finery to be part of a Victorian-era parade in Columbia State Historic Park. Registration at 11 a.m. with parade at 1 p.m. Egg hunts begin at noon, 2 and 2:30 p.m. by age group. Columbia State Historic Park, Columbia. visitcolumbiacalifornia.com.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND EASTER EGG HUNT – April 8: Breakfast 8-10 a.m. Free egg hunt 10 a.m. (take your own baskets). Prize baskets for each age group. Geneva Presbyterian Church, 1229 E. Fairmont Ave., Modesto. 209-524-6841.

EASTER KIDZ BLITZ – April 8: Neighborhood Church puts on this community hunt with thousands of eggs to find, a trackless train ride, bubble zone, spin art and more. 9:30 a.m.-noon. Neighborhood Church, 5921 Stoddard Road, Modesto. www.yourmnc.com/kidzblitz.

EASTER FAMILY FUN DAY – April 8: Easter egg hunt, inflatables, balloon art, food and snacks. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. North Modesto Church of God, 1918 Sherwood Ave. Modesto. 209-521-9148.

EGG HUNT – April 9: Egg hunt following 10 a.m. Easter services. First United Methodist Church, 850 16th St., Modesto. 209-522-9046.

EASTER CELEBRATION – April 8-9: Inflatables, activities, egg hunt for younger children. During services times, 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday; 8:15, 10 and 11:45 a.m. Sunday. Shelter Cove Community Church, 4242 Coffee Road. 209-567-3200.
