Roundup: Davis closes in on perfection. Central Catholic nears title. Waterford stunned

The Davis High football team is one win away from completing a perfect regular season.

The Spartans rolled past Johansen 48-12 on Friday night to improve to 9-0 overall, 6-0 in the Western Athletic League.

Davis can close out the perfect regular season Thursday night, when the Spartans play Ceres (5-4, 3-3), which lost 21-20 to Mountain House on Friday. Davis beat Mountain House 43-7 on Sept. 17.

The Spartans are 1 1/2 games ahead of Los Banos (4-4, 4-1) in the Western Athletic Conference. The Tigers have played one fewer game because their contest with Johansen was canceled due to COVID-19 protocol.

Central Catholic 38, East Union 27: The Raiders trailed by one at halftime but rallied in the second half to maintain sole possession of first place in the Valley Oak League at 5-0. Central Catholic should have no problem closing out the outright league title next week against Sierra (1-8, 1-4).
