After 11 seasons, Enochs will have new football coach next season. Pitman position open
When the Enochs High School football team opens the season against Beyer on Aug. 20, they will have a new coach roaming the sidelines.
After 11 seasons, James Stacy resigned after the team’s final spring game against Gregori after accepting the athletic director position at Enochs.
He replaces Randy Rubio as the previous head of the sports program at the northeast Modesto school.
“The biggest factor for me is it’s too much to be a (football) head coach and athletic director,” Stacy said. “I’ve seen it happen before and I felt (AD responsibilities) would take too much time away from the program.”
Tracey Traub, who was the team’s offensive coordinator last year and previously was the junior varsity head coach for three years, is the new coach, Stacy confirmed.
“My heart is with the lower levels (JV and freshman) because those are key to rebuilding,” Traub said.
Enochs was 3-2 during the five-game spring season and beat Downey for the first time since 2010.
Traub also spent seven years as an assistant at Beyer.
The Modesto Christian alum said the offensive scheme will remain Wing-T/power-run but they will continue to “evolve” with an increase in passing plays.
Seniors Abayomi Babalola (defensive end/running back), Kola Babalola (wide receiver/ defensive back), Andres De La Torre (lineman), Keith Orona (quarterback), Eddie Roberson (lineman), and Eddie White (linebacker) are players Traub is expecting big seasons from next year.
Traub also said the school will have all three levels next year.
Stacy had a 45-71-1 coaching record at Enochs and last led the Eagles to the playoffs in 2012. They won the Modesto Metro Conference title in 2010.
While the Sacramento region had over 15 coaching changes this offseason, including notable schools Grant and Oak Ridge, Enochs is the first coaching hire in the Stanislaus District.
Pitman is the only other position reportedly open after Lance Weckerle resigned after two seasons in mid-May.
Pride Athletic Director Dave Walls said Wednesday the school had “several applicants” and hope to hire the next coach on Friday.
