Roundup: Enochs beats Pitman in softball; Ceres remains undefeated in league
The Pitman High softball team entered Wednesday with a chance to clinch the Central California Athletic League title.
However, Enochs disrupted those plans, handing the Pride their first loss of the season in a 4-1 victory at Enochs.
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the third and freshman Miranda Temple was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Enochs (8-1).
Enochs senior Isabella Calvo threw a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out three.
Pitman (11-1, 8-1 in CCAL) beat Enochs, 8-1, on Tuesday, and the teams are tied atop the CCAL entering Friday’s season finale.
Enochs ends the season at home against Gregori while Pitman hosts Modesto.
Ceres 8, Pacheco 2: Senior Cheralyn Durossette and junior Brooklyn Heffernan each had two RBIs as the Bulldogs (14-3) won their 13th straight game.
Heffernan also struck out 12 in a complete game performance.
Boys Basketball
Gregori 59, Enochs 35: The Jaguars (9-0) remained undefeated behind a superb defensive effort.
Turlock 70, Pitman 62: Senior Cameron Walker had 22 points, five rebounds, and three assists in the win for Turlock (4-4) over the Pride (6-3).
Turlock coach Doug Cornfoot recently announced he will step down at the end of the season.
Modesto Christian 87, Lincoln 54: Sophomore Darius Smith had 26 points, eight rebounds, and six assists as the Crusaders (14-0) clinched the Tri-City Athletic League title.
Girls Basketball
Gregori 65, Enochs 31: Sophomore Sara Davis had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Jaguars (8-1), who clinched at least a share of the CCAL title.
