Roundup: CV boys soccer beats Pitman, RC boys hoops advance to semifinals
In a matchup of two local boys soccer teams, Central Valley beat Pitman, 3-1, in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on Thursday.
Sophomore Alex Bautista had two goals for the Hawks (19-3-3) and senior Isaac Juarez and junior Jesus Yepez each had an assist.
Senior Isaac Raya had the lone goal for the Pride (12-9-1).
Central Valley will host the winner of Del Oro in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Division I
Turlock 2, McClatchy 0: Junior Salvador Plancarte scored both goals for the Bulldogs (21-3-1). Turlock is at Jesuit on Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s Division I championship in which the Marauders won, 3-1.
Oak Ridge 5, Gregori 1: The Jaguars (14-6-1) fell on the road to the No. 2 seeded Trojans (15-0-4).
Div. III
Patterson 2, Valley 0: Sophomore Johan Mendoza had a goal in the Tigers (15-3-2) win. Patterson hosts East Union in the semifinals.
Div. V
Hilmar 3, Escalon 0: Junior Jose Guerrero had a hat trick for the Yellowjackets (18-6) in their win over the Cougars (9-13-3). Hilmar will face Linden in the Div. V championship on Saturday at Liberty Ranch at 4 p.m.
Div. VI
Le Grand 1, Waterford 0: Senior Abel Velasco scored the game’s only goal in the fifth minute as the Bulldogs (13-3-3) advanced to their fourth straight section final with a win over the Wildcats (17-6-3).
Boys Basketball
No. 1 seed Ripon Christian (21-7) beat Lodi Academy, 67-41, in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI quarterfinals on Thursday. Junior Braden Van Groningen led the Knights with 20 points and senior Jacob Van Groningen added 10 and junior Caelb Terpsma had nine.
It’s the fourth year in a row the Knights have made at least the semifinals.
Ripon Christian will host the winner of Sacramento Waldorf/Alpha Charter on Tuesday.
Girls Basketball
Div. II
Antelope 62, Modesto Christian 27: Sophomore Cora Grover led the Crusaders (16-13) with eight points in the loss to the No. 1 seeded Titans (27-3).
Div. IV
Hughson 39, Livingston 38: The No. 12 seeded Huskies (20-8) pulled off the upset on the road over the Wolves (21-7). Freshman Olivia Fiveash had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals for the Huskies while junior Madi Coelho had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hughson is at No. 1 Argonaut on Monday.
Calaveras 57, Ripon 49: The Indians (20-9) held a lead for most of the game but fell to Calaveras (20-8). Senior Reina Sausedo led Ripon with 11 points and senior Tianna Sidtikun added 9.
Sophomore Madison Clark had 18 for Calaveras.
Div. VI
Ripon Christian 56, Faith Christian 40: The Knights (16-10) advanced to Monday’s semifinalsm where they will face Valley Christian. Junior Lydia Bakker led the Knights with 15 points while junior Mikaela Vander Molen added 11.

Div. V
Colfax 6, Hilmar 2: Senior Ainsley Wood and sophomore Ashlyn Azevado both had goals in the loss for the Yellowjackets (16-10).
Div. VI
Holt 3, Ripon Christian 1: The No. 1 seeded Knights (17-5-2) were upset in the semifinals by the Bobcats (13-4-3). Junior Elle Van Wyngarden had a goal for the Knights.
