Section releases playoff soccer brackets. Which local schools received high seeds?
The quest for CIF Sac-Joaquin Section titles is officially underway for local boys and girls soccer teams as the section released its playoff brackets on Friday afternoon.
A total of 26 teams (15 boys and 11 girls) from the Stanislaus District qualified for the playoffs, which begin Tuesday for the boys and Wednesday for the girls.
After beating Pitman in the Central California Athletic League Championship on Feb. 12, the Turlock (17-3-3) boys soccer team is the No. 4 seed in Division I. The Bulldogs advanced to the Div. I championship game last year where they fell to Jesuit.
Central Valley (17-3-3), which fell in the Div. II title game last year, is No. 2 in Div. II and the Hawks could face No. 7 Pitman (11-8-1) in the second round.
Johansen (17-2-2), which finished second in the Western Athletic Conference behind senior Diego Gutierrez, is the No. 5 seed in Div. III. No. 15 Ceres (7-6-3), the defending Div. III champion, is at No. 2 Patterson (13-3-2) in a local first round matchup.
On the girls side, Pitman beat Turlock on Wednesday to win the CCAL and the Pride (17-5-1) are the No. 5 seed in Div. II while Turlock (14-5-2) is the No. 7 seed in Div. I.
Ripon (17-4-1), which won the last two Div. V titles, is the top seed in Div. IV. Junior Devaney Dougherty leads the Indians with 18 goals.
Ripon Christian (16-4-2) is the No. 1 seed in Div. VI.
