She went unbeaten as a freshman, won a state title. Now she’ll compete for USA

Pitman High freshman Lilly Freitas’ already superb season got even better on Saturday.

After going undefeated (33-0) and winning a CIF State title in February, Freitas won a national championship at the USA Wrestling Championships in Irving, Texas.

Freitas, the Bee’s Girls Wrestler of the Year, won the 65 kg (143 pounds) title and earned a spot on the Cadet World Team.

The team, comprised of wrestlers between the ages of 15 and 17, will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria in late July for the United World Wrestling Championships.
