Modesto mayor is a nonpartisan position

In "Mayor should be a Republican" (Sept. 21, Letters), the writer said, "Garrad Marsh is a Democrat so should not be mayor." The writer then went on to note the mayoral position is a nonpartisan position. He ended by saying we should vote for a conservative Republican.

Excuse me. What sense does that make? Please vote for the best person for the job, no matter their political preference. Hopefully that will be a person who cares about Modesto and wants the best for all who live here.
