David Utecht: If we give up our guns, our liberty will be next
Re “It’s time for the Constitution to evolve, again” (Letters, Oct. 12): It is quite obvious from your letter that you dislike both guns and gun owners. You put forth ideas that are both unconstitutional and impractical. Be that as it may, I would urge you to do some research as to what happens when a populace is disarmed.
Do you remember “Krystal Nacht” and what followed? Look it up, it’s in every history book. The aftermath was called World War II. A wise man once said that those who ignore the lessons and mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them. Isn’t it great that those men who gave us our Constitution were wise and very astute? Those men gave us the freedoms we enjoy today, including the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Even staid old England is considering arming their police after a very long time of “bobbies” carrying only a nightstick and whistle.
It is a little late to stuff the genie back in the bottle.
