John F. Perry Jr.: Trump’s missile launch followed precedent of other presidents

Re “Trump didn’t get approval to launch” (Letters, April 19): The last line “a declaration of war” was obtained, it was by President Franklin Roosevelt against Japan, Germany and Italy. Since then, the rest of the presidents haven’t asked for permission, they just launched. The Korean War, Vietnam War, Afghanistan War were all classified as “police actions.” I think President Trump did the right thing.
