Vote count update: One race for Stanislaus County judge remains unsettled
Stanislaus County released another update Monday afternoon on votes in the March 3 primary.
The new numbers bring no resolution to the only undecided race, a Stanislaus Superior Court judgeship sought by three candidates.
Deputy District Attorney John R. Mayne had 48.62 percent of the vote in the latest tally, down from 49.11 percent in the March 5 update. He needs to top 50 percent to avoid a November runoff against the second-place candidate.
Monday’s update showed court Commissioner Ken Hara at 26.2 percent and Family Justice Center attorney Jared Carrillo at 25.18 percent.
The latest report accounts for 70,624 of the votes countywide. About 40,000 remain to be counted, Registrar of Voters Donna Linder said by phone Monday.
The count so far includes mail ballots received before Election Day and ballots cast at polling places on that day. Still outstanding are mail ballots received by last Friday, per state law, as well as damaged and military ballots.
Linder said the counting could go through this week. Under the law, the county has until April 2 to certify the results, 30 days from the election.
It also featured two other judgeships, the county Board of Supervisors, state legislative seats, the U.S. House of Representatives and president. Voters also rejected bond issues in five school districts along with a statewide school bond measure.
