Stanislaus Indivisible organizes third No Kings in Modesto this weekend

Stanislaus Indivisible will lead its third No Kings protest Saturday, starting at 11 a.m at Graceada Park in Modesto.

The purpose of the demonstration will be to address, among other things, grievances against the Trump administration for actions by federal immigration enforcement, the Operation Epic Fury combat operations against Iran, and concerns over ongoing constitutional violations.

The protest is part of a nationwide push, and there are other local events occurring in Stockton, Manteca, Turlock and Merced. Participants are encouraged to attend the protest closest to them.

Stanislaus Indivisible spokesperson Lauretta Ayers said her group expects around the same turnout as at its last rally in October, which drew more than 2,000 people to Standiford Park.

Tables will be set up by organizations including the Modesto/Stanislaus NAACP, 50501, The Modesto Peace/Life Center, Stanislaus Dem Club, Youth Life Modesto, North Valley Labor Federation and the Central Valley Black Indigenous and People of Color Coalition.

Speakers will include Youth Leading Modesto representative Moses Abeyta and California 5th Congressional District candidate Michael Masuda.

At the previous Modesto rally, the Modesto Police Department screened protesters for violations of its municipal ordinance, which includes limits on sign pole size, mask-wearing and other violations. The city is now being sued by the ACLU after a series of complaints were lodged by residents.

Ayers encourages participants to follow the code as it stands, after being modified by the city to reduce restrictions on masking, and clarify helmet and umbrella restrictions.

Organizers said they received permits from the city and will conduct a walkthrough with the Modesto Police Department in preparation for the event.
