Cat reaches for people through his kennel in ‘heartbreaking’ sight. He needs a home

A sweet young cat found himself in a precarious situation after his family welcomed a new addition.

Gizmo was still new to the world around him when his owners had a baby.

And the transition was too much for him.

“10-month-old Gizmo wasn’t expecting his whole world to change so fast. He was just settling into life when a new baby came along, and with all the noise, attention shifts, and big changes, it was more than this young guy could handle,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a March 18 Facebook post.

“His family made the difficult decision to surrender him, and now Gizmo finds himself waiting behind kennel doors, unsure of what comes next.”

Now, the feline is figuring out how to get the attention of a potential new family in an adorable, but sad, manner.

“One of the most heartbreaking sights? Gizmo stretching his paws through the holes in the kennel, reaching for someone—anyone—to understand him and love him,” the shelter said. “He’s still just a baby himself, full of playful energy, curiosity, and yes, a little bit of attitude that only true cat lovers can appreciate. He likes to play and he’ll engage you for cuddles, but it has to be on his terms.”

The shelter is insistent that the young cat just wants someone “who sees him, gets him, and is patient enough to let his personality shine.”

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
