Amazon begins hiring the 1,000 jobs for new Turlock facility about to open. How to apply
Turlock’s new Amazon fulfillment center is another step closer to opening as the online retailing giant holds an in-person hiring event this week.
Job seekers are invited to apply for a variety of hourly positions with the e-commerce company Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the new warehouse site at 3200 Fulkerth Road in Turlock. The in-person job fair at the on-site Amazon recruiting office will help to fill the approximately 1,000 new jobs expected to staff the massive new facility.
A hiring event also was held on Tuesday.
Applicants are invited to attend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the warehouse site. Those offered jobs will need to provide proof of eligibility, including showing two forms of documentation, which could include a Social Security card, birth certificate and/or passport.
Amazon has been working on its new million-square-foot fulfillment center at the corner of Fulkerth and North Tegner roads since April 2021, when word of the company’s interest in the site first emerged. The company officially confirmed its plans for the Turlock location in August of last year, after construction already was underway.
The fulfillment center will be the second to open in Stanislaus County. An Amazon warehouse opened in Patterson in 2013. The online seller already has a number of warehouses in neighboring San Joaquin County, including facilities in Tracy and Stockton. Between its existing regional distribution and fulfillment centers, Amazon employs some 21,000 warehouse workers in the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
Amazon has not released wage information for its new Turlock fulfillment center jobs. Similar positions advertised on the Amazon careers page for warehouses in Tracy and Livermore are listed as paying up to $20.55 and $29.55 an hour, respectively.
The new Amazon facility is expected to open sometime this month. The company initially announced a mid-2022 opening for the warehouse. But in late June, that was pushed back to September when a company spokesperson called the opening date a “moving target.”
