In the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian Monday night in the Oakdale area, a woman was hit while crossing West F Street (Highway 108) at about 9:20 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reports.

The crash was west of Lee Avenue. Emergency personnel found the woman, who has yet to be positively identified, laying in the center turning lane. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Modesto driver of the 2005 Cadillac Escalade that struck her remained at the scene.

According to a CHP news release, the preliminary investigation determined the woman was crossing the street from south to north. She was struck by the Cadillac as the driver was heading east.

The crash remains under investigation and it has yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs were factors.

The driver was not injured, the CHP says.

About 90 minutes earlier, a man walking on Patterson Road south of Oakdale was struck and killed by a vehicle, the CHP also reported.
