Authorities have identified the driver arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a Modesto woman earlier this week.

The California Highway Patrol Modesto office said the driver is Eduardo Diaz, 19, of Riverbank.

Diaz was arrested following a crash that occurred around 9 p.m. April 7 near Claribel and Langworth roads, according to the CHP. He was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The victim, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Peggy Holt, 79, of Modesto, died after being struck by a vehicle.

Authorities said the driver fled the scene following the collision. Investigators later located the vehicle believed to be involved with assistance from the CHP’s Investigative Services Unit and the Riverbank Police Department. The vehicle was taken as evidence.

Before the arrest, the CHP had asked for the public’s help in locating a white Ford F-150 believed to be involved in the crash. The truck was expected to have damage to the right front side, including the headlight assembly, front bumper and hood or fender.

CHP spokesperson Officer Aaron Fay said there are no additional updates since the arrest and vehicle recovery. The investigation remains ongoing.
