Fatal shooting of man at Modesto market prompts fundraising campaign for young daughter
A fundraising campaign will aid the young daughter of the man fatally shot Dec. 7 at a west Modesto market.
He was identified as Ismael “Milo” Diaz, 34, in an email Tuesday to The Modesto Bee from brother Andres Ruiz.
The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. at M&S Market, at Pelton and Colorado avenues, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department reported. A news release said the shooter was a store employee who had been harassed by Diaz in the past.
The Bee could not reach the department for an update on the case. The county District Attorney’s Office also is investigating and could bring criminal charges.
Ruiz said his brother was not posing a danger when he was shot. He said the Sheriff’s Department has not responded to his request to discuss the case.
He created a GoFundMe page to help with immediate expenses and provide a trust fund for Diaz’s daughter Juliana, 13.
“Your contributions will be a testament to the impact Milo had on our lives and will help ensure that his memory lives on through his daughter and loved ones,” the appeal said.
