Modesto-area store employee fatally shoots man who had harassed him, sheriff reports
An employee at a west Modesto convenience store fatally shot a man during a fight Saturday night, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said.
The 24-year-old man who was shot Saturday, Dec. 7, had been the subject of a protective order sought last month by the employee, CBS 13 reported. Neither was identified as of Monday morning.
The TV station said deputies were dispatched at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to M&S Market, at Pelton and Colorado avenues. The man had just been shot during a fight with employees and other people, the report said.
At least one shot was fired by a male employee, 28, and the other man was taken to a hospital, where he died early Sunday, CBS 13 reported.
The station said the shooter had obtained a restraining order Nov. 14 for civil harassment, but it had not been served on the alleged violator.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and by the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office. The latter will determine whether charges are justified.
