Break-in at Queen Bean causes a few thousand dollars in damages, stolen items. ‘Gut punch’
In the midst of renovating an outdated deck and after experiencing a broken espresso machine shortly after purchasing the shop, Queen Bean Coffee & Social House owners announced they were burglarized Saturday night.
The suspect took off with a few thousand dollars worth of items, the most costly being several DeWalt brand drills and saws owned by contractors working at the site, owner Sam Pierstorff said.
A Clover point-of-sale system and the register were also stolen. The POS system was being leased by Pierstorff and his wife, Ruhi Sheikh.
Queen Bean was closed Sunday to deal with insurance, cleanup and a police investigation, Pierstorff said. The coffee shop will be open Monday and Tuesday, accepting cash only until the new POS system arrives in time for regular operations Wednesday.
“This is devastating news,’” reads a Facebook post from the business. “We have no register to ring up customers and we have damages to clean up.”
The Monday and Tuesday cash-only menu includes sales tax. All sizes of drinks will be the same price.
Breakfast options and sandwiches will range from $9 to $12. Italian sodas, smoothies, coffee and espresso drinks will be $5 to $7.
“Thank you for the support (Sunday) as we wrestled with insurance, MPD’s investigation and the general gut punch that comes with being robbed,” a Sunday evening Facebook post read.
Surveillance cameras captured the crime and images of the suspect. Anyone with information can contact the Modesto Police Department and reference incident number MP24025995.
