Details emerge on teenage girl from Stanislaus found dead in San Francisco alley
A teenage girl from Stanislaus County had multiple drugs in her system when she died in a San Francisco alley in February, the Chronicle reported.
Victorria Moran-Hidalgo, 16, also might have been the target of a “potential sexual assault” at the scene, the newspaper said Friday, April 29.
These were the first details to emerge since Victorria’s body was found early Feb. 18 on Minna Street, in the South of Market area of downtown. They are from an autopsy report that the Chronicle obtained through a public records request to the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office.
Victorria had a troubled childhood and was in and out of foster care, family members told the Chronicle in February. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department got a report in September 2021 that she was missing in Kern County, but she later turned up.
The autopsy report said the substances found in Victorria’s blood included alcohol, fentanyl, heroin and cocaine. The examination could not determine exactly how she died.
“The overall findings are most consistent with a death caused by acute mixed drug intoxication,” the report said. “However, given the uncertain circumstances in which her body was found, the manner of death is best classified as undetermined.”
Victorria was found unresponsive in the 600 block of Minna, an alley in an area known for drug activity. The autopsy report said witnesses happened on the scene “during the course of a potential sexual assault.” The man who was with the girl fled, the report said.
San Francisco police declined to comment to the Chronicle because the case is still under investigation.
Drug overdose deaths rise
Victorria’s death was noted at the time by leaders concerned about the rising number of people killed by drug overdoses.
“It’s hard to imagine anything more sad than a young girl dying on our streets,” Matt Haney, who represents South of Market on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, told the Chronicle.
That city reported 443 deaths to drug overdoses in 2020, by far the most in the state. The statewide total was 5,502. Stanislaus County lost 74 people. These are the most recent annual totals from the California Department of Public Health.
Mother asked for privacy
Victorria’s mother, Sylvia Hidalgo, asked for privacy in a Facebook post soon after her death:
“My youngest daughter Victorria has passed away unexpectedly. At this time I have no answers as I am still dealing with investigators and looking for answers myself. The media is a business and is looking for a story. My baby girls story will be told one day but for today as her Mother I ask you to please respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
