Coroner identifies victim of fatal hit and run in west Modesto

hit and run fatality

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal hit and run in west Modesto as 34-year-old Kasidy Gooch.

The Modesto resident collided with a vehicle in the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Paradise Road at about 7:39 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Tom Olsen said the preliminary investigation indicates Gooch was traveling north on Vernon when he ran a stop sign at Paradise and hit the right side of a vehicle that was traveling east. Traffic on Paradise does not have a stop sign.

Gooch, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The driver drove away in his or her vehicle, which the CHP said should have “substantial” right-side damage. Investigators have not yet identified the make, model or color of the vehicle whose driver is sought for questioning.

Witnesses or anyone with information on the crash are asked to call Officers Aaron Norseen or Blake Mitchell at the Modesto CHP office, 209-545-7440.
