Modesto woman arrested in deadly assault on her 70-year-old mother

Police tape at crime scene

A Modesto woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of an assault on her 70-year-old mother that resulted in her death the following day.

Modesto Police responded to a report of a fight at the victim’s home in the 400 block of Goldrun Drive around 8:30 p.m., said Officer Adam Foster.

“When officers arrived, they found 70-year-old Anna Doran, unresponsive in the residence,” Foster said in an email. “Modesto Fire Department and AMR Medics arrived and began life-saving measures on Doran. She was taken to an area hospital where she resumed breathing, but was in critical condition.”

Doran’s daughter, Michelle Dieball, 48, was arrested at the home just east of Creekside Golf Course on suspicion of elder abuse and battery causing great bodily injury. Foster did not provide information about how Dieball allegedly assaulted her mother or what the fight was about.

On Thursday, Doran was taken off life support and passed away, Foster said.

Asked whether the charges against Dieball could be amended in light of her mother’s death he said, “The charges may be amended based on any information uncovered during the ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 or contact Detective Ra Pouv at 209-572-9826. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.
