Three arrested in Valentine’s Day shooting death of Modesto man

Authorities have arrested three people for the shooting death of a Modesto man on Valentine’s Day.

Modesto police said in a Facebook post Tuesday morning that detectives with the department’s Violent Crimes Unit worked throughout the weekend after Joel Vasquez-Barragan, 25, was found down in the roadway near the intersection of South Conejo Avenue and Oregon Drive at about 11 p.m. Friday. The location is just west of the Modesto Airport.

Vasquez-Barragan had been shot several times and died at the scene.

On Monday, detectives served search warrants at two homes in Ceres and made three arrests. Armando Suarez, 26, of Modesto, was arrested on charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy. Bryant Ramirez, 19, of Ceres, was arrested on identical charges. Edgar Ramirez, 24, of Ceres, was arrested on charges of arson, accessory to murder and conspiracy.

Authorities said the investigation remains active, and police will not be releasing further information.
