Modesto man dies from injuries weeks after hit-and-run vehicular assault
A 21-year-old Modesto man has died from his injuries two weeks after being struck in a hit-and-run vehicular assault.
According to Modesto Police, Daniel Garcia, 21, was hit Jan. 7 while walking along the 1600 block of Oregon Drive in the airport neighborhood. California Highway Patrol officers responded to a call of a hit-and-run of a pedestrian. Witnesses told officers that as Garcia was walking across the street a vehicle sped up, swerved toward him and he was struck. The car then fled the area.
The impact knocked Garcia, who was in the middle of the street, several feet east and he landed near the curb on the north side of the road. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He remained in the hospital until succumbing to his injuries. The suspect or suspects are still outstanding. The vehicle involved is described as a newer four-door silver sedan.
