Detour update: Highway 99 in Manteca will have more night closures for project

Highway 99 in south Manteca will close over five straight nights to allow work on its upgraded link to Highway 120.

The closures will be on all lanes of 99 at Austin Road, starting late Sunday, Nov. 16. They will last from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on the northbound side and from 10 p.m. to 5 am. in the southbound lanes. This will continue through Friday morning.

Drivers can take detours involving Yosemite Avenue and other Manteca streets. Updates are at www.sjcog.org, the website of the San Joaquin Council of Governments.

The project required a similar five-night closure in October on part of 99/120 interchange. It is a key link to the Bay Area for drivers in Stanislaus and other counties.

The $48.2 million project will add a second lane to the ramp from eastbound 120 to southbound 99. It also will provide a fourth lane on southbound 99 between 120 and Austin.

Construction started in August 2024 by Teichert Inc. of Pleasanton and is expected to take until summer 2026.
