Three food trucks at Modesto Grub Hubs expand — two of them with restaurants
Three food trucks in Modesto Grub Hubs have expanded with either a second food truck or a brick-and-mortar location: Fonzi’s Tacos, Papusas Francis and Antojitos Sinaloa.
Fonzi’s has opened a second taco truck in a new Modesto food truck court, Papusas Francis has opened a restaurant in Turlock, and Antojitos Sinaloa is opening a frescas bar in Modesto.
Here is more information about each.
Fonzi’s opens second Modesto taco truck
Alfonso Meraz opened Fonzi’s Tacos in 2016. Before it found a home at Modesto Grub Hubs in 2019, it was stationed at several locations in Modesto, including H Street, Ninth Street, Carver Road and outside breweries and nightclubs.
The trailer is now run by Alfonso Meraz Jr. and his sister Daniela, and they’ve opened a second one at a new food plaza.
Foodies on 15th opened at 718 15th St. in Modesto in March. As of now, the only two food trailers in the plaza are Fonzi’s and Los Gueros MexiBachi.
One of the allures of Foodies on 15th is that it has an app and a website where customers can order their food ahead of picking it up. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or visit foodieson15th.com to order.

Papusas Francis opens restaurant in Turlock
Papusas Francis was one of the first three food trucks in Modesto Grub Hubs when it opened in 2019, along with Fonzi’s Tacos.
Johanna Ramirez’s grandmother started the business around a decade ago at the Modesto Certified Farmers Market. Ramirez now owns it with her husband, Ronaldo Guadron.
On May 16, the couple celebrated the grand opening of their restaurant at 507 N. Golden State Blvd. in Turlock.
“Part of my motivation in opening this space was because it was always my grandmother’s dream,” Ramirez said through a translator. “She has already retired and returned to El Salvador to enjoy her retirement, but she always wanted to have a physical place. That’s why in the restaurant there is a mural that a Salvadoran artist came to paint, and she is reflected in it.”
Papusas are a staple El Salvadorian stuffed corn “cake.” The recipes Ramirez uses are her grandmother’s and the 15 flavors include bean and cheese, chorizo and cheese, asada and cheese, garlic cheese, and spinach and cheese.
The restaurant also serves El Savadoran soups and traditional breakfast dishes. It’s open Mondays through Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Antojitos Sinaloa opening frescas bar in Modesto
Antojitos Sinaloa has four truck locations: Modesto Grub Hubs, Lathrop Food Plaza, Valley Eats Merced and Ceres Grub Hub. Soon, it will open its first brick-and-mortar frescas bar.
Through Instagram posts, it appears that Antojitos Sinaloa opened first at Modesto Grub Hubs in 2019. It opened a second truck at Lathrop Food Plaza in 2022 and its third and fourth in Ceres and Merced in 2025.
The menu includes aguas frescas, fruit cups, corn in a cup or on the cob, and mangonada.
The soft opening for Frescas Bar by Antojitos Sinaloa at 901 N. Carpenter Road, Suite 49, will be May 25 at 10 a.m.
On May 27, a hiring event will take place at the location between 1 and 4 p.m.
Three days later, on May 30, Frescas Bar by Antojitos Sinaloa will host a grand opening at noon. There will be free tacos, live mariachi music, raffles and prizes.
