Driver killed in early-morning solo crash on Sylvan Avenue in Modesto
A driver was killed early Tuesday morning in a solo crash on Sylvan Avenue, according to the Modesto Police Department.
Spokesperson Sharon Bear said the collision occurred a little before 4 a.m. between McReynolds and Roselle avenues.
Officer Troy Cross, who was at the scene, said the vehicle “started at the island and ended up at the tree,” where it came to rest. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
Sylvan Avenue was closed in both directions while members of the Traffic Safety Unit investigated.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name once family is notified.
Police said the crash was the latest in a series of fatal collisions this year. Members of the Traffic Unit noted they had been awake for more than 27 hours, having investigated another fatal crash the night before.
