Labor Day 2025 is Monday, Sept. 1.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or running errands on your day off, be aware some Modesto-area stores will close their doors or shorten their hours in observance of the holiday.
The Modesto Bee reached out to local businesses and services to find out how Labor Day will affect their hours.
Below is a list of Modesto-area businesses and whether they’ll be open or closed on Monday.
Hours can vary by location, so be sure to check with your local store before heading out.
Which Modesto-area grocery stores are open on Labor Day?
The Modesto area is home to a variety of grocery stores, supermarkets and other retailers.
Here are the major chains that will be open or closed Monday, Sept. 1, for the holiday:
- BevMo!: Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Cost Less: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Costco: Closed.
- FoodMaxx: Open from 6 a.m. to midnight.
- O’Brien’s Market: Open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Raley’s/Bel Air: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Safeway: Open 5 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Sprouts: Open 7 a.m to 10 p.m.
- Target: Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Trader Joe’s: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Vallarta Supermarkets: Open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Walmart: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Winco: Open 24 hours.
Is Vintage Faire Mall open on Labor Day?
Vintage Faire Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.
Individual restaurants and retailers may have different hours, so it’s best to contact them directly.
Are local pharmacies open on Labor Day?
Here’s how Labor Day will affect hours at local pharmacies and drugstores on Monday, Sept. 1:
- CVS: Store open 24 hours; pharmacy open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Walgreens: Store open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; pharmacy closed.
Will trash be picked up on Labor Day?
Trash pickup will not be affected by the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 1.
Local haulers only observe four holidays in 2025:
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1
- Independence Day, July 4
- Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday of November
- Christmas Day, Dec. 25
What’s closed on Labor Day in Modesto?
Government offices, including the California Department of Motor Vehicles, U.S. Postal Service and public libraries will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, as well as most banks.
Package delivery companies including FedEx and UPS will be closed for the holiday.
