Update: 19-year-old man dies after being struck on Modesto’s Briggsmore Avenue late Saturday

TNS

A male pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday at West Briggsmore Avenue and Carver Road, according to the Modesto Police Department.

“From what we know at this time, the pedestrian was walking along the south roadway edge (of Briggsmore) and stepped into traffic for unknown reasons,” police spokeswoman Sharon Bear said Monday morning.

The collision happened about 11:30 p.m. The vehicle was traveling west on Briggsmore Avenue, according to an MPD post on Facebook.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said Monday the pedestrian was a 19-year-old Modesto man. The office did not release his name because it had not yet notified his family. The man died after being taken to a hospital. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Witnesses are encouraged to email Traffic Safety Officer Justin Beverson at BeversonJ@modestopd.com.
