Badly injured elderly man taken to hospital after being hit by vehicle in Riverbank

A pedestrian was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Riverbank on Wednesday morning, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened at about 7:25 a.m. near the intersection of Callander Avenue and Topeka Street. The pedestrian, an elderly man, was said to have “life-threatening injuries.”

The driver of the vehicle that hit the man remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor, according to a Sheriff’s Office release. The collision was being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team.

As investigator’s looked into the collision, Callander Avenue was closed from Stanislaus Street to the bend at Atchison Street.

“Roads will remain closed for the next couple of hours, so please plan your routes around the closure,” read a Sheriff’s Office release posted at about 9:30 a.m.
