Oakdale resident who died in crash into roundabout identified

A motorcyclist who died after crashing into a roundabout in Oakdale on Friday evening has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Jim Screeton Jr., 58, of Oakdale was traveling west on Greger Street, east of Wild Stallion Drive, at about 5:45 p.m. when he hit the roundabout in the center of the street. That caused him to lose control and crash into a residence, according to a preliminary investigation by Oakdale police.

Chief Jerry Ramar said Monday that Screeton is believed to have been going at least twice the speed limit. Alcohol also is a suspected factor in the crash.

Two people died at the same intersection in November 2021 when their car struck a curb and then crashed into the same house, Ramar said.

No one in the home was injured in either incident.
