Patterson bicyclist killed in collision east of the city

A Patterson man on a bicycle died in a collision with a vehicle east of the city Tuesday afternoon.

The bicyclist, 51-year-old Joseph Prieto, was riding east behind a slow-moving tractor-trailer on Almond Avenue, west of Elm Avenue, around 3:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

For unknown reasons, Prieto moved into the eastbound lane and directly into the path of a Chevrolet sedan. The left front of the Chevrolet hit Prieto, who died at the scene from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the CHP.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Turlock woman, and two passengers, girls ages 14 and 8, were not injured.
