Patterson man seriously injured after driving into floodwaters

A Patterson man suffered major injuries after driving into floodwaters near Grayson on Monday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was driving a Honda east on West Grayson Road, approaching Laird Road, when he entered standing water around 3:20 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which continued in a southeast direction, left the roadway and rotated counterclockwise. The right side of the Honda hit a wood utility pole, then came to rest.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and suffered major injuries in the crash, according to the CHP.

In a press release, the CHP reminded drivers of the importance of wearing a seat belt and said, “motorists should never enter a body of water at a speed that may cause the vehicle to lose traction with the roadway surface.”

The release did not say how fast the Honda was traveling.
