A driver who was ejected upon crashing into a power pole and then was run over by his vehicle died at the scene just outside Turlock late Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to a news release on the crash, the 51-year-old Stockton resident was driving a 2011 Honda west on West Monte Vista Avenue at about 60 mph.

He failed to stop at the stop sign at North Washington Road and continued westbound onto a private dirt access road.

The left front of the Honda struck the pole. The driver, not wearing his seat belt, was thrown, landed on the dirt road and was run over. He was found beneath the Honda and declared dead at the scene.

Passenger Victor Bedoy, 22 of Stockton, reported no injuries.

The CHP news release says alcohol and/or drugs appear to factor in the crash.
