Bethany Home will expand its senior services in Ripon with 82 apartments fronting Main Street.

The City Council unanimously approved the three-story project Tuesday. Construction could begin in December and take until summer 2024, Executive Director Cindy Scheublein said by phone Wednesday.

The rents won’t be cheap — $2,880 a month and up — but they will include 45 meals a month, a fitness center, a media room and other amenities. The project lies near the west end of downtown, an easy walk to restaurants, stores and other businesses.

The $57 million project will rise on a mostly vacant site at the southeast corner of Main and Vera Avenue.

The Bethany Home complex already provides several levels of service, including assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and long-term care. It was founded about 60 years ago.

“We will be bringing services to the residents as they age in place,” Scheublein said.

The expansion, called The Terraces at Bethany, will add 29 employees to the 185 already on staff, she said.

Bethany is already taking inquiries about the new apartments at www.theterracesatbethany.org or 209-396-4489.

The monthly rent will start at $2,880 for a studio, $3,940 for a one-bedroom apartment, and $4,940 for a two-bedroom apartment. The homes will range from 427 to 1,268 square feet and include a kitchen, washer/dryer and balcony.

The facades will feature red brick, reflecting the older buildings downtown. The design is by CallisonRTKL, a global firm with an office in San Francisco. Quiring Homes, based in Fresno and Pleasanton, is the building contractor.
