Names of Note: Modesto’s Datapath expands to south state. Latino causes get grants

Datapath, a Modesto-based technology firm, has expanded into Southern California with its acquisition of an Irvine firm.

Datapath annnounced July 9 that it has acquired Bright Bear Technology Solutions for an undisclosed price. The Irvine office will add five employees to the 55 already working for Datapath in Modesto and Fresno.

Datapath, founded in 2005, provides cybersecurity and other IT services to clients in business, education, government and other sectors.

Nathan Phinney, former president of Bright Bear, is now Datapath’s general manager for Southern California.

“We’re bringing these businesses together to create one innovative data security organization able to protect businesses across California when they need it most,” Datapath CEO David Darmstandler said in a news release.

The company is a few weeks from moving its headquarters from 318 McHenry Ave. to the former Wardens Office Products at 14th and J streets. Wardens relocated to Technology Drive in north Modesto.

COVID-19 has forced Datapath to conduct even more of its business remotely, including the negotiations for Bright Bear. The firm noted that network security is vital for all clients during a pandemic.

“Leaders should be hyper-vigilant right now to maintain data integrity and ensure that their customers and employees are protected,” said James Bates, chief operating officer at Datapath.
