Coronavirus update, Oct. 22: Stanislaus tops 1 million tests. Deaths reach 1,331

Stanislaus County passed a milestone Thursday with regard to testing for COVID-19.

Health workers have done more than 1 million tests since the pandemic arrived in early 2020. This includes 924,372 negative test results and 76,922 people found to have the virus.

A key point when looking at this data: The positive figure is individuals, with one test each. The negative results include many people who have been tested multiple times because of work requirements or other reasons.

That said, this milestone is still worth noting for the health workers, who continue to stick swabs in nostrils to help contain COVID-19. The current schedule for the county Health Services Agency is at www.schsa.org/coronavirus/testing.

Other updates from the county’s online dashboard Thursday:

Deaths: Five more residents have died, for a total of 1,331 since the first was reported in April 2020. The death rate has slowed over the past month but is still higher than late spring and early summer.

Hospital cases: The county’s five hospitals had 110 patients with confirmed COVID-19 on Thursday, down from 117 on Wednesday. Adults in intensive care increased by five to 33.

Positivity rates: On the state dashboard Thursday, where numbers reflect the previous day, the seven-day positivity rate was 7.0%, up from 6.9% the previous day and an increase of 0.4% from the prior seven days. The rolling seven-day rate a month ago was 8.6%.

Vaccines: As of Thursday, 85.6% of eligible county residents (those 12 and older) had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 59.8% were fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
