Stanislaus schools report 251 COVID cases week of Oct. 10, public health agency reports

Stanislaus County schools tallied 251 COVID-19 cases last week, according to the Health Services Agency.

This marks the third week that cases reported in schools topped 200. Schools reported over 300 weekly cases during much of September, the dashboard shows.

High school students continue to account for the largest share of cases reported in schools, and staff the smallest.

Schools reported eight outbreaks and seven active clusters the week of Oct. 10, compared to five and six, respectively, the week before. An outbreak is three cases linked to the same exposure, and a cluster is two cases linked to the same exposure.

Public health officials identified 94 instances being “monitored for additional cases,” compared to 68 recorded during the previous reporting period.

More than 700 students and staff were in quarantine or isolation Wednesday, compared to nearly 640 the previous week.

From Oct. 9-15, Modesto City Schools recorded 36 cases among students and six among staff, according to the district’s COVID-19 data dashboard. That’s about 0.13% of the district’s population.

The district has confirmed over 750 student and staff cases since school began Aug. 9, according to the dashboard.

On Monday, Modesto City began providing live instruction and online lessons to students who miss school days after contracting the virus or needing to quarantine.

In the same time frame, Turlock Unified School District reported 46 student cases and no staff cases, according to the district’s COVID-19 data dashboard.

More than 400 students and staff were identified as close contacts, meaning they had to undergo various forms of quarantine depending on the circumstances of their exposure, vaccination status and willingness to test on campus.

School leaders from smaller districts told The Bee they are not able to maintain a public COVID-19 data display because of limited staffing resources.

Several districts have created data displays since the school year began. Here are other K-12 school districts in Stanislaus County that The Bee knows to have COVID-19 dashboards:
